Growing Together: A Guide to Building Inspired, Diverse and Productive Youth Communities
Growing Together is the result of a decade of The Food ProjectÕs success working with youth from
diverse backgrounds and bridging urban and suburban communities through work on the land.
Written in a clear, engaging style, Growing Together is an indispensable resource for youth coordinators,
teachers, religious leaders, trainers and community members who want an easily transferable and
adaptable approach to creating dynamic, diverse and productive communities.
French Fries and the Food System: A Year Round Curriculum Connecting Youth with Farming and Food
This agricultural curriculum features powerful, original lessons written and developed by The
Food ProjectÕs growers and educators. Organized by season, the material teaches youth how to
develop a deep understanding of and appreciation for the land and local food systems. Lessons
can be done both indoors and outdoors and can be easily adapted by instructors working in
school-based plots, urban food lots, and environmental education programs.
DIRT: The Next Generation
This video is the story of a diverse group of teenagers who break through stereotypes they
had about each other to become a close-knit community learning leadership, public speaking
and farming skills. The 22-minute video is a glimpse into the spirit of The Food Project from
the eyes, words and voices of the young people who have experienced the program.
An ideal way to learn more about The Food Project, this youth-produced video will also serve
as a spring board for discussion about a model that is thoughtfully and creatively challenging
youth to build a better future for themselves and their communities.
Program Manuals
These manuals are the nuts-and-bolts guides to running all areas of the Food Project, including:
the Summer Program, the Academic Year Program, the Volunteer Program, the Alumni Program,
FarmersÕ Markets, Rural Agriculture, Urban Agriculture and Management. Together, these books
describe in detail the implementation and management of The Food Project. These manuals will
assist those who want to develop similar work in their own communities.
