E.A. 9.11 War on Terrorism

Terrorism is too large an issue to take on in any sort of war. Its too difficult to wage war on a concept rather than a people. But which people should we be waging war against? Is this a war? Or is it just a police action? I really cant say. This is such a confusing arena of events and it really is a whole new kind of war.
... In a cushy place like America, it often takes a catastrophe to wake people up and make them care about anything. Its almost as if people are commodities that can be sacrificed. Now I am a cynic, Ill admit that, and the truth is that what actually is going through the minds of our government officials is probably somewhere in between total selflessness and the total selfishness that I described. Still, I dont feel comfortable leaving my life in their hands, especially when I dont get to know the actual details of this secret war and the American media is perfectly content with censoring itself, littering all press with the phrase G-d bless America and hero hero hero every two seconds. Seriously katie couric, the word is
losing its meaning.

Hey everyone, Im Amanda. Im 17 and I go to Bronx Science H.S. in New York. I like the simpsons and family guy and everything written by John Irving and Hunter S. Thomson. Otherwise Im ridiculously lazy and enjoy lying around and moving as little as possible. Im interested in joining this discussion group because Ive exhausted all discussion about September 11th with my friends, and Im eager to continue talking about it, and to find out what other peoples experiences were and how they differed from my own. Thats about it. Peace.

But shouldnt we as American citizens be willing to support our government whole heartedly for their decisions... Maybe we should find ourselves fortunate to be living in a society where if we comment about our government, even bash it at times, we do not suddenly disappear the next morning. All I am trying to say is that I know our American society is riddled with problems, but let us at least feel fortunate that our government does have the interest of the people in mind, even though it may have certain groups in mind, we as minorities benefit from them also. and as such yes we should question, but let us support as well.

I dont happen to agree with some of the things that are going on. I agree that bin Laden should be sought out and punished, but I dont believe that innocent Afghanis should be killed because of Bushs rage. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Bush and his administration, but I must say, I do not agree with all of their methods. I want terrorism to stop, but is violence really the way to end violence?

...To be honest, I dont know what kind of action I think is right, but I do think that too often instead of taking into consideration what people are saying, we tend to attack them for speaking their minds. Maybe its because once we open ourselves up to listening to what people have to say, we wont like what we hear. Its difficult for me to listen to someone say that they hate everything Middle eastern, but instead of attacking them for their thoughts, it is our job to help educate them. Many times peoples fear of what they do not know, overcomes their rationality and turns into a hatred
....just a thought.

i feel that the young youth is doing a good job on making movements, committees, conferences, groups, discussion circles to reform America, and make it a better place for the future. One day our great, great, great, great etc. grand children will thank us, and follow our lead. Im from brooklyn. I like art, poetry, frogs, gospel, R-n-B. Being a part of that gk conference on 3/26/02 made me feel like a leader.

This is my poem__> present forming the future
America land of the free,
Well, thats they way its supposed to be.
America is standing tall.
Standing tall, is that just all?
Speak your words,
make them fly like birds.
Make some use of your inner power,
oh come on, it takes more than an hour.
Dont you want your kids to live in a world of peace?
So make some time to make war decrease.

I think people are scared. After 9/11, there was virtually no questioning of governmental actions, and I think some people grew worried that without the normal balance of the press and their constituents, the government would act without restraint. In my opinion, anti-war protestors add an important point of view, even if it is more extreme than the views of most.

hmm...hard to think of anything interesting today. Hopefully it will suffice to tell you all that I am a senior, and totally in love with NFTY.

I think these people arent considering the consequences of not going to war..i know it sounds awful, but what is america supposed to do? we cant just sit back, and let our homeland be attacked. We arent really punishing the people of afghanistan, we are just trying to install a government that wont oppress the people, and trying to stop terrorism. We could be doing worse things, like using atomic bombs, but america continues to be patient, and weed out the criminals, instead [of] taking everyone down.

As for the war on terrorism,. . . this is an outrageous war that is entirely hypocritical.. . The overall public does need to wake up and start reading in the good newspapers (People and Time doesnt count) about what the US government is doing, and what it is allowing multi-nationals to do as well. If people really wanted to look at Americas place in the world, and do something about it, they would stop driving their SUVs and start learning about places besides the US and parts of Europe.
